The iPad has always been where Apple tries out new paradigms of working. It also packs in five microphones for recording audio and the very good quad-speaker array from the last Pro model. Face ID is a revelation, like it was on the iPhone X. I measured the touchpad on the Magic Keyboard with it and it was accurate to the millimetre. If you want a new iPad Pro, I highly recommend the 11-inch model, which starts at $200 less than 12.9-inch model and is easier to handle. Apple is trying to move the iPad Pro’s rhetoric from whether it should replace a laptop to considering what its modular versatility can bring to a wide range of professionals.

The quality is exceptional – though you’ve still got to deal with the fact that anyone who uses an iPad for photography without good reason should be run out of town with flaming pitchforks for doing crimes with their sticking out elbows poking passers-by and fellow tourists. Now, it's going full tilt on AR, a hardware capability that is waiting for apps. The 12.9-inch iPad's form factor doesn't make AR feel like the next big thing. We're big fans of the fact that mouse support has landed on the new iPad, but there needs to be more optimization from developers to enable users to make the most of this.
