The Railway Man does its best to make its cast look skinny, dirty and malnourished – but any film would be limited by the fact that you simply can’t starve actors to the extent that the Japanese starved their POWs. I can't find anywhere that has them.

I read this years ago and still remember with horror the torture Lomax went through. To see what your friends thought of this book, They're a constant in his life.

This is an extraordinary personal rendition of the ordeal of this man’s life. Kidman gets the short straw with the least developed main character in the film (who also happens to be the plot's catalyst) but still performs admirably, despite being the one who has to deliver many of the script's lesser lines.
