The sets are beautiful, the mansion where the action takes place is suitably gothic and the cast is fantastic. In coming up with the story, John Landis and Jonathan Lynn made this film so much better than it had to be. There isn't a bad bit of acting in the film, it's all done in quite a hammy way, but that's its charm. This movie has been a guilty pleasure of mine for years, and I'm glad to see that over thirty years later it still holds up strong. Director Jonathan Lynn makes long sweeping shots of the gorgeous mansion set look as lovely as his quick cuts to each character.
