Never did I imagine calling a rape scene filler, but this anime works in strange ways. Despite this, characters can still have a peaceful dialogue about poetry or engage in several moments of levity and comedic relief that do not feel forced. As much of a pain as it can be to watch her cry almost every episode in the first half and end up doing very little outside of getting captured while bellyaching about her revenge, it does become satisfying when she continues to put revenge aside while managing to come up with useful plans to help her comrades in the third quarter. Hell, even some of the more depraved characters such as the first episode’s antagonist, Sabato Kuroi, and the rapist/killer madman Shira, have genuine moments. III Episode 1, Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld 2nd Season, WATATEN! While this certainly isn't out of place for feudal Japan, the very dramatic focus on limbs flying off is a little bit off putting. I am a huge sucker for Feudal Japan stories. The new series manages to accomplish something that the original doesn't: it actually ends. Moreover, there are still several gruesome impact shots that look either beautiful and artsy, or downright devastating. Anime-Planet is a site run by fans, for fans. Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front – Babylonia, Fate/stay night Movie: Heaven’s Feel – I. Presage Flower, Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It, Lord El-Melloi II Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace Note, Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld, Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious. But the 2019 version remains by far one of the most beautiful animes of all time, rivaling Studio Ghibli and Makoto Shinkai Films. The narrative is very heavily truncated even from an anime-only standpoint as episodes feel bloated and characters are thrown in without proper introduction. What makes him interesting, though, is that he’s not really a bad guy. Both series do an amazing job of choreographing beautiful and intense fight scenes. At times, extreme and horrifying, at others, awe-inspiring and beautiful, but does 2019’s Blade of the Immortal anime capture the strange magic of Hiroaki Samura’s chanbara epic?. He’s then introduced to a young girl — who turns out to be Rin’s granddaughter or great-granddaughter — and is tasked with keeping her safe. Which brings me to characters. But there’s also a pretty large supporting cast of characters who are all extremely interesting in their own right. In fact, I believe that certain characters that were supposed to be hunted down were simply forgotten by the narrative, such as the long-sword guy who is one of the lackeys of the main antagonist. For reference, the only other time I’ve read the manga after watching an anime was for Attack on Titan. Meanwhile, the new series puts a focus on the animation and making sure each scene is perfectly framed and drawn out too much with the tone and feel of the episode. Several quiet moments are captured beautifully through shot composition, conveying the tranquility that parades much of this anime. Here’s where we get to the juicy stuff, so skip down to the conclusion if you don’t want to be spoiled. While I am not huge on "SURVIVE OF VISION" by Kiyoharu thanks to the extreme engrish on display, the howling vocals and badass guitars make for a decent mood piece perfect for a chaotic bloodbath such as this show. more in the horror genre than a revenge samurai saga. Tom: Blade of the Immortal looks poised to be one of those anime titles where the real take away is “Go read the manga” rather than offering up an exceptional adaptation week to week.Right from minute one Blade of the Immortal’s adaptation suffers from a few baffling directorial decisions that damage the audience’s ability to focus, and perhaps hide the low-budget nature of the production. At the very least, a majority of these characters get beautiful sendoffs in the final two episodes, with some of the most powerful and well-directed death scenes I have seen in a long time. For all of the vile horrors it presents as rape and death are littered across the show’s 24 episode run, there’s a strange sense of tranquility and naturalism to be found in much of it. By bringing in industry veteran Hiroshi Hamasaki (a key animator from the original Ninja Scroll) to helm the series, the remake's presence as a great anime series was only further solidified. Which version is better and why? The longer I’ve had to think about this series, the more I like it. You automatically start eyeing the numbers in order to decide what you want to watch. Much like the characters themselves, proceed with caution. I cannot begin to describe how vivid and disturbing these scenes are.Did you notice how I was only able to name one of the two characters I mentioned in the previous paragraph? Blade of the Immortal is yet another anime that is ranked way lower on Anime Planet than I'd expect.
